New European Travel Rules – What You Need to Know
Big changes are coming for those planning to travel to Europe! Starting November 10th, 2024, most countries in the Schengen Area will introduce the Entry and Exit System (EES). This will require non-EU tourists to have their faces and fingerprints scanned at border control to improve security and modernize the process.
Then, starting May 2025, you’ll need to complete the ETIAS (Electronic Travel Information and Authorisation System) before travelling. It’s an online authorization that costs €7 and will be valid for 3 years. The grace period for ETIAS will end in November 2025, so be sure to get your authorization before your trip!
Here’s the full list of countries where the EES will be used (The Schengen Area):
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (including the Balearic and Canary Islands), Sweden, and Switzerland.
These new rules aim to reduce identity fraud and make travel safer and more efficient. With Trekker’s Tips, you’ll stay informed on the latest updates and how to prepare for your next European adventure. Don’t let the changes stop you from exploring the beauty of Europe—plan ahead, stay informed, and travel smart.
